SERVING

Mark 1:29-31

On leaving the synagogue he entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon’s mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them.

Reflection:

The mystery of Jesus begins to unfold at the beginning of his Galilean ministry. In Mark, Simon’s mother-in-law was the first woman Jesus heals, and just as importantly, she is the first woman to serve Him. When the fever leaves her, she begins to wait on them. At first, this may seem to simply illustrate the return of her health. However, on deeper reflection, we understand that when Jesus touches our lives and heals our spiritual brokenness or physical ailments, we are propelled to return the love and mercy by serving the Lord and His people. Today, let us reflect on how Jesus has touched our lives and allow the Spirit to guide our loving response to God.
